I really wish I could knit...

...because this is my dream 1970s hooded sweater jacket! Isn't it perfection?

Many years ago, I did actually did teach myself how to do basic knitting. And while I picked it up quite quickly, I decided just as quickly that I didn't have the patience or the dedication for it. Same with quilting - way too tedious and time-consuming for me, although I can see how both quilting and knitting could be quite zen-like for others. I gravitate towards sewing clothing because (when I actually have the free time) most things can be finished in one evening! This sweater jacket will probably continue to haunt me, though....

  1. mmm it is perfection! it looks fluffy and rich like a Christmas tree covered in heavy snow! its so beautiful that i wouldnt dare encourage you to give up on knitting! i imagine you'd be so proud if you made it! start with small projects to get some confidence and develop a taste for knitting... I've made douzens and douzens of sweaters, I know how enjoyable it can be and as the cold season is starting, there's nothing cozier than sitting on the couch under a blanket watching tv and knitting while having a cup of boiled wine...

  2. I always found knitting too slow too, but recently have taken it up again - maybe I am more patient now! It is easy to pick up and put down when you just have few minutes, unlike sewing where you really need to get set up.

  3. I've re-tried knitting and I really like doing small projects - hats and mittens and such. You could try doing something small inspired by this, maybe.

  4. i used to knit as a kid and picked it up again last year. i'd say, go for it as it is a lovely thing to do on long autumn/winter evenings. stick with it and you mind actually find that after a while it will be difficult to sit down without immediately picking up the knitting needles.
